THE FREQUENCY OF LOVE
This year for Valentine's Day I am inviting you to step into The Frequency Of Love by taking on some of the self care suggestions in this post and in the video above. Taking time to tune into this frequency can be a lovely self care practice for Valentine's Day. Our souls are formulated with tremendous capacity to love. Our very well being depends on how we are being loving. Our world needs each of us to tune into this frequency in order to bring in new levels of love, a sense of hope and peace for advancing times. Our survival as a compassionate species depends on it.
Celebrate Valentine's Day this year with these self care suggestions to replenish your inner strength and improve your over all sense of well being. In this blog post on you will find some creative ways you can design a self care routine to create the joy filled stress free life you desire. (It has been a while since I posted so I put some extra care into this post for those of you who have been encouraging more of my videos and content).
My daughter and I have a regular practice of planning our family celebrations in an art journal. After pages of imaginings, colour schemes and actual organizing we start to gather what we need to make it all come together.
decide on a colour scheme:
pink & red
This year we decided on a colour scheme together: pink and red. As a mixed media artist, I love the juicy vivacious colours of crimson to the subdued softness of pale petal pink. We also added hints of bright pink to liven up our 2016 Valentine's Day crafts, cards and cupcakes.
My very first job was teaching crafts on Saturday morning in the children's section of the local library. Making things with my own children in the future was something I sometimes thought about. It is very fulfilling to have this time with Chloe to interact and share what artistry can be. My mother was a World Issues teacher, many people in my family are teachers and principals, so it became evident to me that the language and communication of teaching is something that we can pass on to the next generation simply by sharing what we know. My mother helped me with writing and editing. My boss at the library had written her own craft book. Both have inspired my to share from a genuine loving place.
The time to gather inspiration is when you are visioning the different handcrafted elements of your celebration. Before the flowers are ordered, prior to artfully arranging anything, setting up a photoshoot based on our colour scheme is a great way to get in tune with the mood of the celebration. For Valentine's day 2016, putting together various shades in the spectrum of pinks and reds was the way I started. I started to imagine juicy past painting with thick solid shades of red and light romantic watercolour washes. I put together some of my favourite things from my art and craft studio. The rectangle of bright rosey sequins is a set of art journals which bring a little sparkle to this collection of gathered inspiration.

These artfully crafted Valentines can also double as decorations.

creative vday gift ideas
Valentine's Day is a great time to promote leadership to girls/daughters in particular. Boosting their self esteem and self worth by making them feel special is a wonderful self care idea. Teaching girls to nurture their sense of what romance means to them leads to them making the connection that they can turn their feelings around. Developing a positive mindset and healthy self image can begin at home with small, thoughtful, and practical gifts. The sparkle knit mittens above can be a creative alternative to chocolates or candy.
valentine's day health notes
It is sometimes difficult as loving parents, to watch our children eating lots of sugar on Valentine's Day and on other "sugary" occasions. This year Chloe baked and decorated 40 cupcakes for her class. Baking and decorating cupcakes is something she loves to do with friends.
One thing parents can think about is quantities of sugar being consumed in a given day, week or month. If I know that food is going to be an issue when going out, I bring strawberries or a fruit tray. Here is another great healthy alternative to munch on: Strawberry Granola Minis by Made Good are a nice snack to include because it is organic, peanut free, certified vegan, non gmo project verified and contains nutrients found in one serving of vegetables and they come in a cute package.
self care stress relievers
Valentine's Day is also time to create some natural stress relieving self care practices. Consider creating a rose petal filled bath, peppered with pink Himalayan bath salts and an essential oil with cinnamon and/or cinnabark. The blend pictured above is Thieves by Young Living. Remember to carve that private mindful time for yourself to tune into The Frequency of Love. A romantic bath is the perfect private spa oasis to revive from the winter chills.
