Last month my daughter and son both read 100 books each! This meant reading at least two books per day. The result was better reading out loud, expression and and an improvement in their vocabulary. They also felt a sense of accomplishment attached to reading. It was nice for me to see the many books we have collected over time being put to good use. Each child set a goal for one hundred books and were happy to exceed that number. This is something the are doing at ages eight and six. I hope to keep up the love of reading as it is said that kids today are not reading anymore. My husband and I are both avid book collectors who are constantly modeling the enjoyment of reading for our kids - even if it is on the Kindle. My daughter has just completed another set of one hundred books for this month making that two hundred in the last two months! For a child in Grade One that is exceptional. For me it is a Mommy Victory because it did take some coaching on my part to keep them on track. Goal setting is an important skill we can be teaching our children through an afterschool parent run program like this one.
My son Damon is reading Chapter books at a Grade Eight level and he is only in Grade Three. My daughter Chloe is reading at a Garde Six level and is only in grade two so there is something to this on-going reading process we have going on.

Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this website. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's challenging to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and appearance. I must say you've done a great job with this. Also, the blog loads very quick for me on Chrome. Excellent Blog!
