what's your
story: From the time I was little I always liked to do things with
my hands. We took long car rides to relatives quite frequently and I brought
stacks of things to do. I guess I just have a need to keep my mind and hands
busy. I learned to knit in HS when mom taught me for likely the third time.
This third time seemed to be a charm though because it stuck and I have never
really been without a knitting project since. My dad would tease me asking how
many sweaters I have in my sweater collection. Well, one can never have too
many hand made sweaters in one's sweater collection! One summer vacation in
like 7th or 8th grade I taught myself calligraphy using a book. My dad is an
artist, he paints and mom had a prennial plant business at our house. So you
can imagine the beauty and artistic inspiration I was surrounded by growing up!
My mother also knits, spins, weaves, makes baskets, bakes, etc. I have followed
in her footsteps, dabbling in many handcrafts as the spirit has moved me. My
passions at the moment are sewing and embroidery. It is wonderful fun to learn
new skills. I guess I just stumbled upon doll making as a less time consuming
hobby than making entire quilts. I love to play with combining fabrics and
trims and as I have spent a good number of years studying Social Anthropology
it does seem fitting that my sewing would be about depicting people.

why this
artist stands out: I love the
way Emily takes the same form and is able to recreate so many different
appealing versions. From the simple pale vintage colours to the bright, each
doll really is a one of a kind piece of art.
The artist adds... I guess I have a real love of color and design. I
love both extremes: cheerful and subtle.
how to make a Scandinavian doll: One thing when making a doll - trim
your seams and do cuts into the seam allowance until close to the stitching.
This will make the curves much smoother. Even then I will frequently hand
stitch out a bump or two on the curves. I like it that the edges of the dolls
look smooth.

Interesting article as for me. It would be great to read a bit more about that topic.
