Crepe Paper Flowers By Kris Hurst. who the artist is: Kris
Hurst, Cumming, GA what's your
story: Crafting has
always been a part of my life-Mother worked full time and always kept office supplies on the kitchen table for my sister and I to keep us busy-I was making
little collages on shipping tags from age 4-when I learned to cut out pictures-the joy of ephemera was instilled in me by my great
grandmother,Effie. She loved to tell us stories of the little pieces of saved
papers from her life that she kept in a hat box- where: etsy= shurst.etsy.com blog = krislhurst.blogspot.com
{cassandra’s words:} why this artist stands out:
She inspires us to use romantic
vintage imagery, crepe paper flowers and aged tags. We can learn how to create
a mood using collage items from a particular era or style to get an emphatic
look. The artist adds: My
goal as a crafter is to keep the images from the past on the crafting scene-
thus my collection of ephemera digital cd's that I have amassed. how to make crepe paper flowers: 1. Using the rolls of party crepe paper-cut 1 yard then stitch along one edge with a large gathering stitch. I use a sewing machine, but you can do this by hand. 2. Gather, then tie knots at both ends 3. Glue with a hot glue gun while spiralling onto a circle of paper. I use a circle punch. Then glue another circle onto the front. 4. With a pair of pinking sheers, cut around the edges of the flower. You can let this be the finished flower. 5. But, I like to line the edges with mod podge and sprinkle glitter or paint the entire area of crepe paper with glitter glue- |
